Open-source models
The research group relies on a suite of in-house developed simulation tools covering the value chain between accurate characterization of processes to their widespread deployment at the country level. The open-source models developed or used are summarized in the figure below.

As an example of this multi-scale modeling approach, the following simulation chain could be defined:
- Characterization of working fluids (refrigerants, ORC mediums, supercritical CO2, etc.) is achieved in CoolProp, thermophysical properties library
- Their use in specific components is simulated in ThermoCycle, an award-winning Modelica Library.
- The integration of HVAC inside buildings (e.g. for demand-response mechanisms) is achieved by means of a comprehensive set of building simulation tools.
- Finally, large-scale deployment of energy appliances is simulated in integrated energy system models such as the in-house and well-established Dispa-SET model, which covers the whole Europe.
