Master Thesis Proposals

Master Thesis subjects for 2024-2025

Every year, 2 to 5 Master theses are defended within the ISES research unit. These theses can occur abroad (within a partner organization's premises) or in the Thermodynamics Laboratory (B49).

These subjects are open to both local students and foreign students. The stays are not remunerated, but some possibilities exist for travel grants to international students to travel to Liège or for local students to travel abroad.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of subjects for the academic year 2024-2025:

  1. TFE - Characterizing the flexibility of electric water heaters in the Belgian energy system
  2. TFE - Contribution to the PyPSA Earth energy planning model for developing countries
  3. TFE - Energy Scenarios considering the life cycle carbon footprint
  4. TFE - Improving the simulation of variable energy sources in integrated assessment models
  5. TFE - Microgrids for rural electrification
  6. TFE - Modelling system integration in future European energy system

Internship opportunities

The Integrated & Sustainable Energy System research unit of the University of Liège has been collaborating for multiple years with partner institutions around the world. The institutions are usually keen to welcome Belgian students for a joint master thesis.
In general, the internship and a large part of the work is carried out in the partner institution, but the master thesis is defended at the University of Liege.
